Legal Clinic – Attorneys from DLA Piper and Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago provide free legal assistance to residents, by appointment and walk-ins. Legal issues exclude criminal cases. A social worker may be available to assist with social issues. Offered 2nd Wednesday of each month, 4-7pm. The Odyssey Project – Adult education classes conducted in 60 sessions and allow six hours of college credit from Bard College in New York Offered Mondays and Thursdays, 5-8om (Illinois Humanities Council, University of Chicago)
Discovering Our City/Urban Prep Academics – The AKArama Foundation hosts Students annually in March for informative 1 ½ hour session on Chapter and Foundation programs and other topics as determined. Lunch is provided for 15-25 students, chaperones, and hosts.
AKArama Café – Computer access services are offered to residents of the Woodlawn community free of charge. 2016 dates and times will be announced in the New Year. Computer Instruction on various topics is offered on Wednesdays in a “lunch and learn” session.
CEP Mobile Tax Clinic – Free tax services are offered to Woodlawn and other residents with incomes of less than $50,00 (more than one person in household), and individuals with incomes of less than $25,000. Offered on various dates during the tax season. (Center for Economic Progress)
Prosperity House is a sixteen-bed recovery home for women. It serves recently ex-offenders, homeless veterans, and women from treatment centers. AKArama Foundation members support Prosperity House by providing workshops on employment re-entry, grocery support, clothing, skill training classes and mentoring.
