Our Programs

The 2014-2018 International Program will focus on Launching New Dimensions of Service. Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, through its 283,000 members and 986 chapters, will have an opportunity to address community needs with programs in five target areas:

Target I: Educational Enrichment

Target II: Health Promotion

Target III: Family Strengthening

Target IV: Environmental Ownership

Target V: Global Impact

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will expand its community presence as a result of these initiatives, which include International Community Impact Days and our signature enrichment program, ASCEND Enrichment Program (hereafter referred to as ASCEND℠).

Target I: Educational Enrichment

Throughout Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® history, education- and youth-focused program initiatives have been at the forefront of the sorority’s service mission. During 2014-2018, this legacy of service will place new emphasis on the importance of coaching and preparing young people for life after high school. During this time, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® will expand its reach and execute educational programs for high school female and male students through its signature program-ASCEND (Achievement, Self-Awareness, Communication, Networking and Development Skills) – as well as through AKA One Million Backpacks and Think HBCU.

Target II: Health Promotion

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® will continue its strong health awareness focus through programs in three areas that disproportionately affect the African American community: Alzheimer’s disease; stroke and heart disease prevention; and mental health and wellness. The focus will be enhanced by working with national partners, namely the Alzheimer’s Association, American Heart Association/American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA) and National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
